TIPS AND TRICKS FOR VISITING THE BAHAMAS

Transportation:

A Taxi is a fixed rate from the Airport to Atlantis - only about $35 for a family of 4 PLUS tip

Shuttles are available from constantly from Harborside to the main Atlantis area.  After the first day you'll figure out the system.  You can walk also in about 10 minutes around the harbor.

When leaving, arrive at the airport 2.5 - 3 hours ahead of your flight!  No kidding!  You first go to the ticket counter and get your boarding passes.  US Airways seems to have the longest lines.  Then you get in another line for security.  There is only 2 or 3 x-ray machines and you clear US customs in the Bahamas.  Save a lot of stress and get there early.

Food:

It is very expensive to eat dinners at Atlantis.  If you want to eat out, make reservations right away when you arrive or call ahead if you win.  There are other restaurants on Paradise Island, but we didn't have a chance to visit them on our first trip.  Lunch at the many poolside restaurants is $10 - 20 per person.  Atlantis provides a shuttle to a grocery store on Nassau.  Prices are higher than the states, but the selection is just as good.  You can also bring packaged food with you.  We have not done it yet, but if you search some travel forums, people describe what is allowed.

The best way for groceries is to ask the Taxi driver to stop by a grocery store on the way to Harborside.  Most will do it for a small fee.

There are liquor stores and a very small grocery near Harborside.  The rum, etc. is cheap with the grocery having a very limited selection, but it is close.
